Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The Antietam Remembrance Walk is this Sunday, Sept. 16!!
This walk will join the towns of Shepherdstown, WV and Sharpsburg, MD in ceremonies and a commemorative walk from Sharpsburg over the Potomac River to Shepherdstown. The Sept. 16, 2012 event will honor those who fought at the Battle of Antietam and the residents of both towns who opened their homes following the battle to care for the wounded and dying.
The walk will commence at 5:30 PM at the Antietam Railroad Station near the site of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s tent headquarters on MD. Rt. 34 west of Sharpsburg. After the opening ceremony, participants will follow Rt. 34, cross the Potomac River bridge, and wind through the Shepherd University campus to the walk’s end at Shepherdstown Town Hall.
Organizers want to extend a special welcome to the many Civil War re-enactors who will be participating in the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, on September 17, 2012. Learn more about our organizing sponsors here.
The 3-mile walk is free and open to all. Early registration is strongly encouraged!
